Vans Park Series 2017 World Championships in Shanghai

YouTube Preview ImageThe Vans Park Series World Championships are set to take place in just under two weeks in Shanghai, China on September 23rd.

Located on the world-famous Bund waterfront area in central Shanghai, the 2017 VPS World Championships will pit skateboarding’s top bowlriders against 2017’s VPS Continental Champions to showcase a global competition in a custom designed and constructed VPS-certified park. With a total purse of more than $160,000 USD up for grabs, this momentous event will officially crown the men’s and women’s 2017 VPS World Champions of Park Terrain Skateboarding and establish 2018’s elite VPS Pro Tour group.

Leading the men’s field all season, top ranked tour challenger, Tom Schaar rolls ahead as a serious threat to the competition. Will he be able to unseat current world champion, Alex Sorgente (USA) and earn his rank against an open field of select VPS Continental Champions? Europa Champion, Rune Glifberg (DEN), Americas Champion, Patrick Ryan (USA), Ivan Federico (ITA), Jack Fardell (AUS), Kevin Kowalski (USA), Ben Hatchell (USA) and others will certainly make it a battle to remember. In the women’s division, reigning VPS World Champion Brighton Zeuner (USA) will defend her title, skating against a diverse class of international contenders including Poppy Starr Olsen (AUS), Amelia Brodka (POL), Kisa Nakamura (JPN) and Lizzie Armanto (USA). Vans Park Series Sets Sights on Shanghai for 2017 World Championships

VPS 2017 ChampionshipsVans Park Series has announced that Shanghai, China will play host to the 2017 VPS World Championships for men and women. With its central mission to inspire youth and grow participation worldwide, the Vans Park Series is honored to bring elite park terrain competition and the creative culture of skateboarding to China on September 23rd in Asia’s first and only official VPS-certified temporary park terrain competition course design.

The next stop for the Vans Park Series on the road to Shanghai takes place at Kroksbäck Skatepark in Malmö, Sweden on May 26th with the inaugural Men’s and Women’s VPS Europa Continental Championships and May 27th with the third of five 2017 VPS Men’s Pro Tour qualifier events. The Kroksbäck Skatepark is the world’s first VPS-certified permanent park terrain competition course and was donated in 2016 by the Vans Park Series to the community of Malmö, Sweden on the occasion of the inaugural park terrain skateboarding VPS World Championships for leading the world with their progressive support of the city’s youth through public skateboard programming and initiatives. The VPS Continental Championships provide an open path for regional talent to compete alongside qualifying VPS Tour Pros in the World Championships and a chance to earn a spot on the 2018 VPS Pro Tour.

Additionally, in another historic first for global park terrain competition, Vans Park Series is proud to announce the crowning of park terrain skateboarding’s first-ever Men’s and Women’s VPS National Champions for Brazil, Colombia and Chile. The winners from these select South American VPS National Championships are seeded in the official VPS Americas Continental Championships in Huntington Beach, California.

Vans Pro Skate Park Series 2016 World Championships Set to Roll

YouTube Preview ImageBe sure to tune into the Vans Pro Skate Park Series live and direct from in Malmö, Sweden on August 20th for the 2016 World Championships. Sanctioned by the International Skateboarding Federation as the bonafide event in park terrain competition, the Vans Park Series gathers thirty talented skateboarders to vie for the inaugural championship titles in men and women park terrain skateboarding. Kroksbäck Skatepark, a premier built-to-spec park terrain legacy construction that will be donated by the Vans Park Series to the city of Malmö for their leadership in skateboarding.

Beginning with the Women’s division, 10 highly skilled ladies are ready to put together some progressive runs for a World Championship title and $15,0000. In the Men’s division, 9 international VPS Challengers have advanced to meet and battle it out with 11 VPS Select Pros.

Vans Park Series Global Qualifier Huntington Beach Results

YouTube Preview ImageThe Vans Pro Skate Park Series in Huntington Beach wrapped up its final stop of Global Qualifiers for dozens of hungry competitors. On Friday more than a hundred skaters battled it out for just nine spots available to the semi-finals in in one built-to-spec custom designed park course for the chance to earn their spot to the World Championships in Malmö, Sweden later this month.

Park Series Select Pro Chris Russell nailed down a first place run in Huntington Beach on Saturday to claim his second Vans Park Series Global Qualifier win of the season. But Ben Hatchell surely gave him a run for his money with an assortment of heavy stunts with technical control. Sweden’s Oskar Rozenberg Hallberg took home third place with speed, style and great combined use of the entire park.

Italy’s Ivan Federico didn’t advance into Saturday’s Final, but now sits atop of the Global Challenger rankings where seven additional rippers from around the world will join him and the Vans Park Series Select Pros in Malmö.
