This past weekend’s skateboarding events at the Dew Tour in Chicago have wrapped up where the Flip Skateboards team had very impressive and commanding afternoons against the invited competition. Saturday’s sweep by Flip’s rookie pros took to the Streetstyle podium with Curren Caples on top followed by his cohort Louie Lopez and teammate Alec Majerus. On Sunday, Brazilian dark horse Kelvin Heofler stacked up points in the Street Best Session above all the rest and earned $25K for his efforts. He was followed by Alec Majerus in second and Louie Lopez in third.

Le Petit Jc is a personal project and a movie in progress about life, art and cruising. So far, it’s taken Jean-Charles Vigna two years to travel from New-York to Buenos Aires by himself. He choose to ride a cruiser, as it’s easy to travel with. This is his first cruiser part and he gives thanks to skateboarding. Skateboarding is a journey on many levels.
For most of the Jews in Israel, Yom Kippur is the most solemn religious fast of the Jewish year. There are many “Don’t” customs regarding this day such as – don’t eat, don’t turn on electricity… don’t drive, etc. For 24 hours you will not see a single car in many parts of the country. This very unique day transforms Israel into a huge playground for any kind of transportation without an engine – especially a skateboard. Just try to imagine a big metropolis without buses cars, trucks or trains. Huge spans of roadway and freeways, free of vehicular traffic, waiting to be skated upon.
Filmmaker Amit Schwachter captures some of these rare moments with his good friend and skater Tamuz Rachman and this short film is the result.
It’s been a whirlwind five-month build up, taking in 16 stops across Europe and bringing together over 200 of best shop teams from across borders, with the best store team from each leg earning themselves a place in the Vans Shop Riot Series finals. While it’s gone quickly, it has been quite a journey and we’ve seen some epic showdowns during the course of the series. From revisiting some of the favorite parks and spots from previous years, such as Chelles’ Cosanostra skatepark (FR), to bringing a bit of culture to the scene as the Nordic leg set up right outside Helsinki’s Kiasma Modern Art Museum (FI), the cream of European skate shops assembled their finest teams and set out to shred their way across the continent.
One of the favorite stops of the series has been Aalst’s ‘Flesh & Bones’ skatepark, aptly named given the amount of skin it claimed during the Belgian leg of the Vans Shop Riot earlier in the year. Fittingly, this skate zone becomes the battleground for this weekend’s finals, and as such will bear witness to teams from Moscow to Manchester thrashing it out in what’s set to be an awesome end to 2014’s hotly contested series.
Beginning this Saturday, October, 11th, tune in to watch the battle for the title of Vans Shop Riot Top Shop Team, 2014. It will be live streamed right into your desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone or ridiculous Google glass for that matter.
Keep an eye on VansShopRiot.com for reviews of the final stops, news and exclusive insights behind the series, and Vans’ Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram for updates and live notifications.
