Two of skateboarding’s renowned legends Tony Alva and Mark Gonzales have collaborated on an upcoming artshow that you’re not going to want to miss. The opening reception will take place at Alva’s Exhibit A Gallery in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 31st from 6-11pm. Sorry, invited guests only! However, the exhibition will be up from May 31st through June 30th and all artwork plus 50 numbered and signed limited edition decks will be available for purchase. Drop by Exhibit A Gallery’s website for more info and directions.
Beginning next weekend, Red Bull is stopping by skate shops and skate zones in the eastern cities of Providence, New York, Sayerville and Philadelphia with its Mini Mania Tour. Zered Bassett and Nick Dompierre will be dropping in to get theirs too!
Posted by bkThe next time you start bitching about not pulling that ‘one trick’ after a few tries, or even an afternoon, think about the challenges that Tommy Carroll faces every day. Tommy is a blind skater. That’s right, I said blind. Watch his amazing footage and interview on Tony Hawk’s Shred Or Die site. This kid rips. Sometimes we forget how universal the feeling of skateboarding really is. Thanks to Good Problem for the link.

As mentioned yesterday Deluxe’s impressive Summer of Destruction catalog has dropped and will continue to roll out with interactive goodness through the week. Unfortunately, the Real skateboards section points out that its youngest pro, Johnny Romano’s cancer has returned. Head on over to his message board and offer the little guy some much needed words of support. The more the better!
Yup, it’s finally been done. We no longer need skateparks now that the Danish have made this skateboard simulator available for America’s playgrounds. It’s about time…
Posted by ChrisIt’s good to know that there are guys still out there pushing skateboarding to the limit and working hard in front of the camera. It’s amazing that Red Bull, Sobe or (dare I say) ProActiv haven’t snatched up DJ Douggpound for a sizable deal. Time will tell…cause skating and hip-hop does sell.
Posted by ChrisToad and Salmon’s Chili Bowl Cook Off hits the Mabel Davis skatepark in Austin, Texas this Saturday, May 24th, from 9am-6pm.
The bowl contest is open to the first 50 skaters to register and the Chili Cook Off is open to the first 15 with on-site recipes. Get on out there for the good times!
Posted by bkJoin skate legends Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Dave Hackett, Kevin Harris, Steve Olson, Jim Fitzpatrick and perhaps Stacy Peralta (time permitting) for a book release/skate bash at Simi Valley’s Skatelab on Saturday, May 31st. These guys will be on hand to sign copies of Sean Mortimer’s new book Stalefish as well as skate with you and others for good times sake. A special silent auction to bid on rare collectible skateboards is also planned to benefit ex-Bones Brigade skater Ray Underhill who is fighting brain cancer.
Posted by bkThis past weekend marked the opening of the Highland Center Skate Plaza in Bellevue, Washington. The Nike SB team paid the park a visit and brought along Jon Humphries to capture the action. Take a look at the photos here…

This year’s interactive catalog from Deluxe is so massive it’s going up in sections. As you click through the recently launched Spitfire pages you’ll see this is a good thing. You’ll need at least a few hours to take it all in. Look for the other catalogs (Real, Thunder, Anti-Hero and Krooked) to roll out each day this week.
After months of travel and technical work, Toy Machine has launched its new website with a whole new experience of online lurking. Drop on in!
Posted by bkThe Skateboard Mag’s Animal Chan dropped by DVS’ premiere of Dudes, Dudes, Dudes and cornered several of skateboarding’s luminaries to find out what lurks in their pockets. Uhhh…yeah, that dude needs a new microphone.
Posted by bkCanadian skateboarder, Lee Breen has opted to not to pay his accumulated fines for skateboarding in the streets of Fredericton last summer and as a result, he’s been jailed for up to five days. Breen wasn’t destroying public property while cited for disregarding the city’s bylaw; he was making a conscious choice to skate instead of driving his car during his daily commute.

Posted by bkThe practice sessions and qualifying rounds for Pro Tec’s 4th annual Pool Party have been absolutely hot and heated over the past two days…proving that today’s rounds of competition are sure to measure up to the hype and battles of years past. Unfortunately, due to an assortment of unfortunate injuries, Lance Mountain, Salba, Jeff Grosso and Duane Peters will not compete in the Masters’ competition. Nonetheless, the Combi Bowl at the the Vans skatepark in Orange, CA will host many of the world’s best bowl riders, young, old, seasoned and hungry to get down to business.

Lakai has launched a new webernet site with the centerpiece being a killer video highlighting the new ‘Election Series’. Man, that is good stuff. Oh, the voting begins on June 15th. I’m guessing it’s getting mad traffic right now as it’s moving a tad slow so be patient, it’s worth it.
The Girl crew showed up at Deluxe to grab some product, pack the vans and get out there. We’re sure this won’t be the last set of photos you see from this crew. Check the flyer here and wish you lived in the Northwest.
